Introduction 

This lesson is designed to introduce the average person to the simplicity of changing a light fixture.  People are often scared to change or even work on anything electrical.  The truth is, however, that some things involving electricity are not as complicated as they seem and are safe when done properly. 

There is a popular trend occurring now of redecorating or remodeling ones home.  In either case, changing an old light fixture to a more modern one that fits ones new design scheme can be expensive if a professional has to be called in.  Doing this simple task can save money and change the entire look of a room. 

I replaced several light fixtures a few years ago when I decided that my bedroom needed a chandelier instead of the simple light fixture that was previously in its place.  I was skeptical that I would be able to do it but with some direction from an electrician I was able to complete the task myself and was impressed with myself for accomplishing something that I believe many people would not be willing to attempt.

 Learning Outcomes

• The student will be able to confidently change a light fixture by themselves.
• The student will learn that they can accomplish something that at first may seem impossible.

Upon completion of reading of this module one should be able to change a light fixture in their home with confidence in knowing that it is not dangerous and that they can do it.
